A firm in Airdrie manufactures a whole line of mushroom equipment that has been exported as far away as Washington state. 'We have also built most of the mushroom farm equipment over at the Great Plains Mushroom Farm,' says Ron David, vice-president of Double T Manufacturing Ltd. Mr. David claims a market area for Double T that stretches out over western Canada. The company ships mushroom equipment to Nanton and other local points as well. It was mushroom farm equipment manufacturing that really got things going, he said. Double T, which has opened up a new shop in the East Lake Industrial Park, manufactures a wide variety of machinery that includes as well, agricultural equipment, fertilizer equipment and general maintenance of equipment and machinery. Mr. David noted that some Double T fertilizer equipment has been shipped to Texas. As far as he knows, Double T is the only firm in Canada manufacturing the type of fertilizer equipment they do. He describes it as structural overhead bends and legs to go with it, and bucket elevators. Double T Equipment Ltd. has moved in behind near the Westinghouse plant, due to continued business growth. The company moved on December 12 and 13, and was open for business on December 14. Formerly they were located a mile and a half east and a half mile north of Airdrie. Thomas Thomas, majority owner, and his wife started the original business in 1976. Mr. Thomas brought with him his training from Germany. Two years ago Ron David bought in and since then the company has been growing fairly well. Mr. David said 'farmers from all around the country come here' and it is seldom that they are not helped out. 'We go out of our way to help farmers in the field - they are well looked after,' he said.
